Don’t send your team to workshops
Leaders, don’t send your team to workshops.
Participate alongside them.
You'll benefit from improving your own skills while modeling the importance of professional development.
Leaders and teams learn and grow together, not independently.
Here’s how we came to know this truth:
Years ago, at the conclusion of our development process, we noticed a common occurrence.
A participant would approach, appearing discouraged. Then they’d express what was troubling them, “I wish our leader had been here with us—they needed this more than we did.”
Powerful and sad truth. At that point we knew most of our work wouldn’t stick.
Lack of leadership presence represents lack of awareness… and commitment.
If you want to transform a group of people into a strong team, lead and learn right alongside them.
