Would you rather take-off or taxi?

Michael told me about a recent message he delivered as part of an employee recognition event.

He created a thoughtful and clever opening that aligned nicely with the event theme.

Then, before delivering his dynamic opening, his voice of doubt encouraged him to take the safe route by starting with a few cliché phrases instead:

“Good afternoon, thank you all for taking the time to be here… blah, blah, blah.”

As he recounted his story, Michael’s face cringed.

He knew by the reactions of his audience that his choice had cost him their attention.

I asked him, “When you board a flight, do you want to take-off or taxi?”

 He got it.
