The value of everyday things
After four years of marriage and business partnership, I recognize a number of ways Sarah Schlentz provides regular value for our company. She:
Lends her eagle eye to edit and improve all my writing
Demonstrates an unflinching commitment to our brand integrity
Tackles IT emergencies when they inevitable arise
Ensures ongoing product innovation
Provides a keen listening ear (and heart)
Here’s my question: When can I stop appreciating and thanking her for these everyday actions? Isn’t 4 years enough? How about after five years? Maybe 10?
Next question: Who delivers daily value to your professional life?
Who shows up early and prepared for every meeting? Who delivers accurate and high-quality work? Who stops whatever they’re doing so you can vent and clear your mind? Who brings a positive attitude day-in and day-out?
It’s dangerous when we start seeing the miraculous as mundane.
Let’s start telling people how much their everyday actions mean to us.
You’ll never know how much your affirmation will mean to them.
