The math of a broken mindset

7 out of 10 employees around the globe are moderately to fully disengaged.

All too often when I ask people, “Tell me about your work.” They start with a sigh.

Their chin drops...they pause for a moment as they do the math…then they tell me how many years until retirement.

Simply put, people feel trapped in job jail.

Our culture even has a mascot for Wednesday. A camel celebrates “hump day” to mark the 1/2 way point from weekday struggle to weekend reprieve. Living like this means we’re wishing away 71% of our life. And, that’s a tragedy.

If you are navigating a broken workplace experience, it might be time to check your numbers.

Rather than calculating years until you retire, recalculate the value of each month, week, day, and hour of your life.

Here’s what doesn’t add up: the notion that remaining trapped in a miserable workplace today equates to greater happiness down the road.

When in reality, all we have is right now…this breath.

How will you make the most of that?
