Know your role

My youngest daughter played volleyball in high school.

She had great coaches…and I wasn’t one of them.

Sitting in the stands, I recognized the main benefit of knowing so little about volleyball…

I could laser-focus on my unique strength: Dad.

Trying to fill multiple roles can be a lot like multitasking (which is code for doing several things poorly at the same time).

Give yourself permission not to be all things to all people all the time.

Identify your innate strength in a given situation, and fulfill your role with focus:

  • Is it encouragement?

  • Strategy?

  • Innovation?

  • Listening?

  • Showing Empathy?

  • Gathering Resources?

  • Steadfastness?

Focus on what you do best.

Then, invite others to give themselves permission to do the same.
