Business isn’t about grades

Papers had a minimum page and/or word count.

Presentations had a required length.

We can acutely recall the outcome of those high school mandates:

  •       Long, boring, repetitive messages

  •       Readers and audiences struggling to pay attention

It didn’t matter what your audience experienced; your grade depended on how well you followed the rules.

The rules have changed.

Business isn’t about grades; it’s about results.

Results driven by your ability to earn attention and drive meaningful action.

How do you accomplish this?

  •       Edit your message for power: Keep it short. Keep it targeted. Keep it moving.

  •      Speak the value language of your audience: Tap into what they care about.

  •       Drive meaningful action with clear and compelling next steps: Help them achieve what they’re after.

Release yourself from English class etiquette.

Brevity is the mark of a master.
