How's your rest ethic?

Language reveals a lot about a culture.

Our Western worldview places high value on a person’s willingness to work long and hard.

Children get praise for it in their studies and adults get promotions for it in their careers.

It’s the virtue we call work ethic

Interestingly, we don’t have similar language that honors someone’s commitment to rest.

Healthy balance is often mislabeled as “lazy” or “unmotivated”.

So we choose lack of sleep, lack of exercise, and lack of family time to keep up with the pace of progress.

Instead of being ashamed of rest, it can be admired.

It takes more discipline to stroll than to strive, to pause than to proceed, to clear than to clutter.

Rather than rushing into a resolution…commit to an evolution that will strengthen your rest ethic.
